Editorial - SIR NOFACE

Before I begin, let’s get a brief history of Cockatoo Island:

In 1839 Cockatoo Island was chosen as a site for a new penal colony by Governer Gipps. This was to alleviate the overcrowding on Norfolk Island. Convicts built stone prison barracks, a military guardhouse, granary silos and official residences. The prison was eventually vacated in 1869.

In 1871 the island became home to Newcastle Industrial School for girls. It was renamed Biloela, an Aboriginal word for Black Cockatoo. The institution was split into two parts: the Biloela Public Industrial School for Girls and The Biloela Reformatory. The reformatory was for girls who had broken the law while the industrial school was intended to operate more like an orphanage. However, the girls were mixed together which meant that girls who had been neglected or orphaned were housed with petty criminals; all of them living in the dire conditions of the convict cells. The conditions for convicts and years later for the girls were horrendous. They were forced to work in sweatshop conditions and suffer harsh, arbitrary punishments.

This isn’t the entire history of the island, but I believe based on the conditions mentioned above, it’s most likely a contributing factor to the possible paranormal activity of the island.

A new documentary is coming out called SIR NOFACE. This is Chad Calek’s third paranormal documentary. What is extraordinary about this documentary is that it chronicles a nearly two year investigation of Cockatoo Island that was sanctioned by the Australian Government.

The Australian Government contacted Craig Powell and the West Sydney Paranormal Research Team (WSPR) to see if they could determine if past claims of paranormal activity on the island could be discounted or substantiated.

This documentary could change everything. With advancement in technology it’s entirely possible that a ghost has been captured on video. I’m really hoping this is the case. Given my experiences with the paranormal, I’m really hoping that Craig Powell and his paranormal investigators finally have the definitive proof of ghosts.

What really has me excited about this documentary is that it was sanctioned by the Australian Government. I am looking forward to seeing the full body apparition that WSPR’s investigation got on camera. Unfortunately I will not be able to attend any of the screenings that are coming in July. I will be purchasing the DVD and watching it for myself.

I’m sitting on the edge of my seat in anticipation of the DVD release as I put my thoughts to ‘paper’. I hope some of you will be able to go to one of the July showings or purchase the DVD for yourself. As excited as I am, just know that I will watch and be analytical about what I’m seeing. Yes, I believe in the paranormal but that doesn’t mean I won’t watch with a critical eye.
