Sasquatch in North Carolina?

Is Bigfoot roaming the woods of North Carolina?

The Littleton area in Halifax County has become a hotbed for sightings of the mythical creature, according to a Bigfoot museum curator in town.

“We have sightings coming in weekly,” said Stephen Barcelo, with the Cryptozoology & Paranormal Museum. “It’s amazing. And they’re very consistent.”

Barcelo opened his museum about a year ago to showcase his reported evidence for Sasquatch, which includes photographs, prints, plaster footprints and other cryptid paraphernalia.

Barcelo said he may have experienced a recent encounter himself as he was hiking with his daughter at Medoc Mountain State Park.

“We suddenly heard the shaking of shrubbery and breaking of branches, then loud deep grunt,” he said.

He’s not the only one. Littleton resident Tifanie Merrill told WNCN earlier this year that she saw a “large, furry looking animal” in the woods.

“It was very large, and its hair was super long and it was running so fast,” she said. “That’s not a bear and it wasn’t like a coyote. I’ve never seen anything like that whatsoever.”

Last year, a tourist in Asheville claims to have captured video evidence of Bigfoot, but says his small-but-fearless pet dog scared the beast away.

Up in Michigan, a camera mounted on a tree reportedly captured footage that some believe could be Bigfoot, according to the Detroit Free Press.

Barcelo’s museum is open daily at 328 Mosby Ave. S. in Littleton and he said they are expanding. He said people from all over have visited.

Barcelo said there will be an event next month to show the public where multiple Bigfoot sightings have been reported.

It takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12 at Medoc Mountain State Park at 1541 Medoc State Park Road in Hollister.
