Paranormal Investigator Damon Simms explored the dingiest corners of some of Staffordshire's spookiest places. Here he tells of something frightening that happened to someone who was convinced there was no such thing as ghosts or the afterlife...
From The Sentinel: Tony has lived in Tunstall all of his life, man and boy. Until quite recently he held a firm belief in that there is no life after death, no heaven or hell, and no such things as ghosts.
Sunday, August 9, 2015, changed all that.
Tony lived in a small home that he shared with Zion his pet malamute dog.
Zion was very well-trained dog and Tony had showed him in dog trials. He was obedient, intelligent and loving.
Tony worked for the local NHS and enjoyed trying to help people. He had recently become single and found living alone to adjust to. He had put all his spare time into work to keep his mind occupied.
On Saturday, August 8, Tony was on his way home from work and the night was drawing in. The street lights glowed orange and the Tarmac shone in the rain.
Tony pulled up outside his home and glanced up to see Zion looking through the bedroom window at him. He always waited for his master to come home and both man and dog were happy to see each other.
As Tony opened the front door, Zion came bounding down the stairs to greet him.
After getting changed and cleaning himself up Tony was watching TV. After an hour or so he noticed that Zion was acting strangely. The normally calm and quiet dog started to whimper and was trying to get closer to him, as if he was seeking protection from his master.
Unnerved by the situation, Tony started to stroke Zion to try to understand what was wrong.
"What's the matter boy, are you not feeling too well?" asked Tony, softly.
Just then Tony claims that the room suddenly became cold – like somebody had opened the front door on a freezing winter's day.
The cold air seem to be coming from the living room door which was slightly ajar. Tony got up from the sofa to push the door to. As he did so, Zion followed him, seemingly afraid to be away from this master's side.
The situation with Zion was really scary and confusing for Tony as he had always been such a well-controlled and sensible dog. Nothing had ever fazed him before.
As he returned to the sofa, Tony heard a noise. It sounded like scratching on the walls of the living room. At the same time Zion's mood seemed to change and the fur on his back stood up as the dog took on an attack pose and began to growl and snarl.
