The February 6 Atlantic Meteor Impact


You probably don't recall anything major happening on February 6 of this year but a report from NASA says if you lived in the middle of the Atlantic ocean, you would remember it! The NASA GPL object fireball page recorded a sizable event occurring at 1:55 PM. More after the Jump!


This one being an exceptionally bright meteor zoomed Earth's atmosphere and exploded over the South Atlantic Ocean. The calculated total impact energy released from that explosion was reportedly about 13,000 tons of TNT. Now that sounds like a pretty big deal but as far as meteor impacts go, this one was pretty tiny. More here at Huffington:
