Perched on a hill overlooking the town of lone, is an ominous presence that screams horror film and haunted encounters. Known as the Preston Castle, this menacing structure's eerie appearance takes on a whole new level of frightening charm after one learns of it's ghostly past.
Preston Castle was a reform school for delinquent youths called the The Preston School of Industry. It was a reform school for delinquent youths from 1894 until 1960. Preston School of Industry was home at one time to singer Merle Haggard, actors Rory Calhoun, Lee J. Cobb and Eddie Anderson (Rochester on “The Jack Benny Show”), and tennis star Pancho Gonzales. Merle Haggard even escaped from the prison twice. In 1950, Anna Corbin, head housekeeper, was found locked in the basement bludgeoned to death with a rope around her neck. To this day, no one has been convicted for her murder. Her spirit is believed to still walk the halls of Preston Castle.
