1947 had a busy UFO summer...

The beginning of the modern UFO era is often traced back to June 24, 1947, when a man named Kenneth Arnold sighted "a formation of very bright objects" while flying over the Cascade mountains of Washington State.  More of the history of UFOs after the jump.

The speed that Arnold estimated was at a minimum of 1,200 miles an hour (1,932 km/hr). This was the first post-War sighting in the United States that garnered nationwide news coverage and is credited with being the first of the modern era of UFO sightings, including numerous reported sightings over the next two to three weeks. Arnold's description of the objects also led to the press quickly coining the terms flying saucer and flying disc as popular descriptive terms for UFOs.

Now keep in mind, this happened during the same month the infamous Roswell, New Mexico UFO crash. If Roswell occurred June 14th, and this sighting happened over Washington 10 days later, perhaps the aliens were searching for their lost comrades? It could all be a hoax of course. One must assume that there is the potential for it to all being made up. But if both were real star ships from outer space, could it be a coincidence or is it easier to assume they were both part of the same alien family?
