Heartbreaking News: Roswell Dogs Dying From Contagious Virus

Roswell, New Mexico is always in the news in regards to aliens, ufos crashes and what not. But recently it's distemper which is spreading to dogs and affects respiratory and nervous systems. We wish we could be reporting about aliens attacking dogs, but that's not the case here folks. More after the jump.

From Krqe news:

A New Mexico dog rescue group is heartbroken after losing a number of dogs to a virus in the past week. Now, they’re worried that they could lose more.

Roswell Animal Control confirmed that this illness is canine distemper, the viral disease that attacks a dogs respiratory and nervous systems.

They believe that a dog was brought into the city’s shelter that already had the illness and then it spread to other dogs.

The animal rescue group From Forgotten to Forever was notified Friday by a local vet that some of the dogs they rescued from the Roswell animal shelter were showing signs of distemper.

“It wasn’t the traditional kennel cough, worms, you know the minor things that we are used to dealing with. It was something way more severe,” said Brittani Rovedo, a foster for the rescue group.

So far, the rescue group says that they’ve already lost seven dogs to the illness and a few others are showing symptoms now.

They have put adoptions on hold until there’s no sign of the virus.

“Because of how contagious this is , the vets in Roswell have banded together to figure out how to handle the dogs that are in our care, the dogs that are being adopted out, the dogs in general,” said Rovedo. Roswell Animal Control says it’s taking this very seriously.
