The Maury Island incident occurred before Rosewell. June 21, 1947 in Washington state and Harold Dahl claimed that several doughnut shaped objects were flying in formation over his boat. He was with his son Charles and the family dog. One of the objects is bumped by another one and it crashed. The crash caused Charles to receive a burn on his arm and the family dog was killed.
Harold Dahl's partner, Fred Crisman is said to be the mastermind behind the hoax. Fred Crisman seemed to control the information and was said to be a hustler and pathological deceiver.
